I have a love affair with paint and texture. The catalyst that drives me are the endless possibilities of the way color and texture can weave in and out of each other. My paintings are shallow color sculptures full of intuitive mark making. I typically work very quickly projecting my love of movement into each piece. This also allows me to get little glimpses of how people might see my work for the first time. I don’t like the painting to freeze and become static before my eyes. This blinds me to the overall picture.
By continuing to move my hand with a variety of tools, I construct and destruct until the magic happens. I try to take risks and let the work evolve subconsciously. I work from a variety of subject matter to keep my work fresh. I enjoy responding abstractly with my perception of the natural world, the man made world, and the cosmos. Thus creating new realms. I use my extensive experience of painting realism to converge with the abstract. I enjoy watching realms of space, light and shadow happen in front of me.
My artwork is deeply spiritual to me and is one of the ways I get into a deep meditative state. The paintings are about a subconscious journey or an event. The process is what interests me. Not the end result. I’m not necessarily interested in what is made, but how its made.
